Target Information
Acyl-CoA thioesterases (ACOTs) are enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of acyl-CoA to form coenzyme A (CoA) and free fatty acids. These enzymes regulate intracellular levels of fatty acids and acyl-CoAs.
ACOT1 (CTE1) and ACOT2 (PTE2) are members of the ACOT family with distinct localization: ACOT1 in the cytoplasm and ACOT2 primarily in mitochondria. Both catalyze the conversion of Palmitoyl-CoA and water to CoA and palmitate, playing a key role in fatty acid regulation.
ACOT2 is expressed as multiple alternatively spliced isoforms and is encoded by a gene mapping to human chromosome 14.
