S100B는 신경돌기 신장, 흑색종 세포 증식, Ca²⁺ 플럭스 자극, PKC 매개 인산화 억제, 성상세포증 및 축삭 증식, 미세소관 조립 억제에 기능할 수 있습니다.
이 유전자의 염색체 재배열 및 발현 변화는 알츠하이머병, 다운증후군, 간질, 근위축성 측삭경화증(ALS), 흑색종, 제1형 당뇨병 등 여러 질환과 관련되어 있습니다.
