Target Information
Adaptins are essential components of clathrin-coated vesicles that transport ligand-receptor complexes from the plasma membrane or the trans-Golgi network to lysosomes. The adaptin family includes four classes: alpha, beta, beta prime, and gamma adaptins. Together with medium and small subunits, adaptins form a heterotetrameric adaptor complex that promotes the formation of clathrin-coated pits and vesicles. The gamma-adaptin protein encoded by this gene belongs to the adaptor complex large subunit family, with two transcript variants producing different isoforms.
