Target Information
The ganglioside GD3 synthase induces cell differentiation with neurite sprouting when transfected into the mouse neuroblastoma cell line Neuro2a. After differentiation, several genes are upregulated, including one encoding ganglioside-induced differentiation-associated protein 1 (Gdap1). A similar gene exists in humans, and mutations in this gene are linked to Charcot-Marie-Tooth type 4A disease. The encoded protein shares sequence similarity with human GDAP1. Multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms, as well as a noncoding variant, have been identified.
