Background
Defensins are cysteine-rich cationic polypeptides that play a crucial role in the immunologic defense against invading microorganisms. The protein encoded by this gene is secreted and belongs to the beta defensin family. It binds spermatozoa and exhibits antimicrobial activity against E. coli.
