Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) virion은 약 17 nm 크기의 비외피성 입자로, 원형 단일가닥 DNA를 icosahedral capsid가 둘러싸고 있습니다. 약 1.77 kb의 ambisense DNA는 11개의 잠재적 ORF를 포함합니다.
PCV2는 돼지에서 다양한 질병 증후군과 관련이 있으며, 특히 이유 후 다기관 소모 증후군(Post-weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome, PMWS)은 PCV2 감염과 연관된 주요 신흥 바이러스 질환으로 알려져 있습니다. PMWS는 유럽, 동남아시아 및 미주 지역에서 보고되었습니다.
