Target Information
CYP2B6 encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. These monooxygenases catalyze reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids, and other lipids. The protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum and its expression is induced by phenobarbital. CYP2B6 metabolizes xenobiotics such as cyclophosphamide and ifosphamide. Transcript variants have been described, though it remains unclear whether they originate from CYP2B6 or its pseudogene CYP2B7. Both genes are located within a cluster of cytochrome P450 genes on chromosome 19q.
