Mediator는 유전자 특이적 조절 단백질로부터 RNA polymerase II 전사 기계로 정보를 전달하는 다리 역할을 하며, 조절 단백질과 직접 상호작용하여 프로모터에 모집되고, RNA polymerase II 및 일반 전사 인자들과 함께 기능적 preinitiation complex를 형성하는 골격(scaffold) 역할을 합니다.
