THRAP5는 Mediator complex의 구성 요소로, RNA polymerase II 의존적 유전자들의 전사 조절에 관여하는 공활성인자(coactivator)입니다.
Mediator는 유전자 특이적 조절 단백질로부터 RNA polymerase II 전사 기계로 정보를 전달하는 다리 역할을 하며, 조절 단백질과 직접 상호작용하여 프로모터에 모집되고, RNA polymerase II 및 일반 전사 인자들과 함께 기능적 preinitiation complex를 형성하는 골격(scaffold) 역할을 합니다.
