RTN3는 소포체(endoplasmic reticulum)와 관련된 reticulon 단백질군의 구성원으로, 신경내분비 분비(neuroendocrine secretion) 또는 신경내분비 세포의 막 수송(membrane trafficking)에 관여합니다.
다양한 isoform을 암호화하는 대체 스플라이싱(transcript variants)이 확인되었으며, 이러한 다양성은 내부 엑손의 대체 스플라이싱보다는 복수의 프로모터 작용에 의해 발생하는 것으로 보입니다.
