Target Information

Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) belongs to the insulin receptor superfamily and is vital for brain development. Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications in the ALK gene have been found in tumors such as anaplastic large cell lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and non-small cell lung cancer. The most common alteration is chromosomal rearrangement forming a fusion gene between ALK and nucleophosmin (NPM). The NPM-ALK fusion product is oncogenic. ALK encodes a receptor protein-tyrosine kinase with a transmembrane and extracellular domain, which are absent in the NPM-ALK fusion product. ALK shows high sequence similarity to LTK and plays an important role in neuronal development and signaling in the brain.
