Target Information
This gene encodes class V alcohol dehydrogenase, a member of the alcohol dehydrogenase family. These enzymes metabolize a variety of substrates including ethanol, retinol, aliphatic alcohols, hydroxysteroids, and lipid peroxidation products.
ADH6 is expressed in the stomach and liver, and contains a glucocorticoid response element upstream of its 5′ UTR, serving as a steroid hormone receptor binding site.
Alternative splicing results in multiple isoforms.
