Target Information
BUBR1 is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and a key component of the mitotic checkpoint that delays anaphase until all chromosomes are properly attached to the spindle. Defective spindle checkpoints contribute to genetic instability and malignant transformation.
Human cells contain two related checkpoint kinases, hBUBR1 and hBUB1, which monitor kinetochore-microtubule interactions during mitosis. hBUBR1 is essential for normal mitotic progression, preventing premature anaphase entry.
BUBR1 has been detected in human cancers and identified as a binding partner of BCSG1 (Breast Cancer-Specific Gene 1), which may accelerate breast cancer progression by compromising checkpoint control.
