Target Information
FKBP12 is a member of the immunophilin protein family, involved in immunoregulation and cellular processes such as protein folding and trafficking. It acts as a cis-trans prolyl isomerase binding FK506 and rapamycin, and interacts with intracellular signal transduction proteins including type I TGF-beta receptor. FKBP12 also associates with intracellular calcium release channels and coordinates multi-protein complex formation of the skeletal muscle ryanodine receptor. In mice, deletion of the homologous gene leads to congenital heart disorder known as noncompaction of left ventricular myocardium.
