Product Specific Information

  • For immunohistochemistry (PFA-fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature (RT).
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at RT for 20 min.

Target Information

S100B is a member of the S100 family of proteins containing two EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. These proteins are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of various cells and regulate cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation.
S100B may function in neurite extension, melanoma cell proliferation, stimulation of Ca²⁺ fluxes, inhibition of PKC-mediated phosphorylation, astrocytosis, axonal proliferation, and inhibition of microtubule assembly.
Chromosomal rearrangements and altered expression of S100B have been linked to diseases including Alzheimer’s disease, Down’s syndrome, epilepsy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, melanoma, and type I diabetes.
