Target Information
The NBPF3 gene belongs to the neuroblastoma breakpoint family (NBPF), which consists of many recently duplicated genes primarily located in segmental duplications on human chromosome 1. This gene family has expanded significantly in humans and, to a lesser extent, in other primates. Members are characterized by tandemly repeated DUF1220 protein domains. Variations in DUF1220 copy number within the 1q21.1 chromosomal region have been linked to developmental and neurogenetic disorders such as microcephaly, macrocephaly, autism, schizophrenia, cognitive disability, congenital heart disease, neuroblastoma, and congenital kidney and urinary tract anomalies. Altered expression of some family members is associated with various cancers. This family also includes numerous pseudogenes.
