CHMP4A는 endosomal sorting required for transport complex III (ESCRT-III)의 핵심 구성 요소로, multivesicular bodies (MVBs) 형성과 endosomal cargo 단백질의 분류에 관여합니다.
MVB는 내강 소포(ILVs)를 포함하며, 이는 엔도솜의 제한막에서 내함입 및 절단을 통해 생성되어 라이소좀으로 전달되어 막 단백질, 성장 인자 수용체, 효소 및 지질의 분해를 가능하게 합니다.
ESCRT-III 단백질은 ILV 방출 전에 막에서 분리되며, 세포질 분열의 최종 단계 및 HIV-1과 같은 바이러스의 출아 과정 등 막 절단 사건에도 관여합니다.
과발현 시 CHMP4A 필라멘트는 음의 곡률을 유도하거나 외부 출아를 안정화할 수 있습니다. 또한 PDCD6IP와 상호작용하여 HIV-1 p6 및 p9 의존적 바이러스 방출에 관여합니다.
