Claudin 5은 클라우딘 패밀리에 속하는 막 단백질로, 타이트 접합(tight junction)의 주요 구성 요소입니다. 타이트 접합은 상피 또는 내피 세포층 사이의 세포 간 공간을 통한 물질 이동을 제한하고, 세포 극성과 신호 전달 유지에 중요한 역할을 합니다. Claudin 5의 발현은 다양한 암종(유방암, 난소암, 간세포암, 요로계 종양, 전립선암, 폐암, 두경부암, 갑상선암 등)에서 차등적으로 나타납니다. 또한, 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 다양한 아이소폼이 생성됩니다.
