Target Information
The G(0)-G(1) switch gene 2 (G0S2) codes for a mitochondrial protein that plays a key role in apoptosis, lipolysis, and triacylglycerol hydrolysis. In adipocytes, G0S2 binds to adipose triglyceride lipase and decreases lipid droplet breakdown. Elevated G0S2 expression correlates with lipid accumulation in Crohn’s colitis. Mutations in G0S2 are common in squamous lung cancer, and epigenetic silencing occurs in breast cancer, disrupting normal apoptotic regulation. When G0S2 expression is unmodified, it mediates Bcl-2/Bax heterodimer formation, promoting apoptosis of cancerous cells.
