Target Information
SMAD3 belongs to the SMAD family of proteins. These proteins are homologous to the gene products of the Drosophila gene mothers against decapentaplegic (Mad) and the C. elegans gene Sma. SMAD proteins function as signal transducers and transcriptional modulators mediating multiple signaling pathways. SMAD3 acts as a transcriptional modulator activated by transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) and is implicated in the regulation of carcinogenesis.
