Isolation Medium for Iron Bacteria

Isolation Medium for Iron Bacteria is recommended for the isolation of iron bacteria, especially those belonging to the Sphaerotilus - Leptothrix group. Magnesium sulphate, ammonium sulphate, potassium chloride, and calcium nitrate serve as ion sources that stimulate metabolism. Glucose acts as the carbon source, while dipotassium phosphate functions as a buffering agent.

Agar slants of the medium are prepared, and the test water sample is added to the surface of the slants. Upon incubation, bacterial growth is indicated by turbidity in the liquid layer.
