Target Information
The AGT gene encodes pre-angiotensinogen (angiotensinogen precursor), primarily expressed in the liver. It is cleaved by renin in response to low blood pressure to form angiotensin I, which is further processed by ACE into angiotensin II, a key regulator of blood pressure. Mutations in AGT are linked to essential hypertension, renal tubular dysgenesis, atrial fibrillation, and inflammatory bowel disease.
