Target Information
The NBPF3 gene is part of the neuroblastoma breakpoint family (NBPF), which includes many recently duplicated genes primarily located on human chromosome 1. This gene family has expanded significantly in humans and to a lesser extent in other primates. Members contain tandemly repeated DUF1220 protein domains. Variations in DUF1220 copy number, especially in region 1q21.1, have been linked to developmental and neurogenetic disorders such as microcephaly, macrocephaly, autism, schizophrenia, cognitive disability, congenital heart disease, neuroblastoma, and congenital kidney and urinary tract anomalies. Altered expression of certain family members is also associated with various cancers. This gene family includes numerous pseudogenes.
