EIF2B3는 진핵 개시 인자 2에 결합된 GDP를 GTP로 교환하는 반응을 촉매합니다. EIF2B의 5개 서브유닛 중 하나인 subunit 3의 돌연변이는 백질 소실성 뇌병증(leukoencephalopathy with vanishing white matter)을 유발할 수 있습니다. 또한 EIF2B3는 C형 간염 바이러스 내부 리보솜 진입 부위(IRES)-매개 번역의 보조인자로도 알려져 있습니다.
