Target Information

Lin28 is a transcription factor first identified for its role in developmental timing in C. elegans. It plays a key role in stem cell generation and has potential applications in regenerative medicine. Artificial stem cells (induced pluripotent stem cells, iPS) can be created by expressing Lin28 along with transcription factors POU5F1, Sox2, and NANOG in mouse fibroblasts. Recent studies show iPS cells can be generated using plasmids expressing Lin28, Sox2, POU5F1, and c-Myc, eliminating viral introduction and improving safety for potential therapeutic use.
