Target Information
CD146 (MCAM) is an integral membrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is expressed at cell-cell junctions in endothelial cells and various normal and malignant cell types. CD146 functions as a calcium-independent adhesion molecule and may also participate in signal transduction through Fyn kinase activation and tyrosine phosphorylation of intracellular proteins involved in actin cytoskeleton assembly. It plays a key role in endothelial cell adhesion and vascular integrity, and its expression in melanoma cells may facilitate tumor metastasis. Additionally, CD146 may act as an adhesion molecule in neural crest cells during embryonic development and serve as a surface receptor triggering tyrosine phosphorylation of FYN and PTK2 with transient calcium influx.
