Target Information
Ataxia-telangiectasia Mutated (ATM) is a protein belonging to the PI3/PI4 kinase family. It plays a key role in repairing double-stranded DNA breaks caused by ionizing radiation and other mutagens. The ATM gene product phosphorylates proteins such as P53, Mdm2, BRCA1, and SMC1, regulating cell cycle and apoptosis. ATM becomes autophosphorylated and activated upon DNA damage, initiating kinase cascades involved in DNA repair and cell-cycle control. Deficiency of ATM leads to increased sensitivity to ionizing radiation and impaired p53 induction, contributing to ataxia-telangiectasia pathogenesis.
