Antibody detects endogenous levels of total OPN3.
Target Information
Opsins are members of the guanine nucleotide-binding protein (G protein)-coupled receptor superfamily. In addition to the visual opsins, mammals possess several photoreceptive non-visual opsins expressed in extraocular tissues.
Opsin 3 is strongly expressed in brain and testis, and weakly in liver, placenta, heart, lung, skeletal muscle, kidney, and pancreas. It may also be expressed in the retina. The protein exhibits canonical photoreceptive opsin features and may play a role in encephalic photoreception.
Strong expression is observed in the brain, particularly in the preoptic area and paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus. It shows patterned expression in cerebral cortex, cerebellar Purkinje cells, subsets of striatal neurons, thalamic nuclei, and interneurons in the ventral horn of the spinal cord.
