Target Information
N-cadherin is a 140 kDa transmembrane protein that mediates calcium-dependent intercellular adhesion. It belongs to the cadherin family, which regulates morphogenetic movements during development and controls cell surface adhesion through homotypic interactions. N-cadherin function depends on its linkage to the actin cytoskeleton via catenin proteins, with stability regulated by phosphorylation of beta-catenin. The protein consists of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane domain, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail. It plays essential roles during gastrulation and in establishing left-right asymmetry.
