Ribosomes are the organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, composed of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit, containing 4 RNA species and about 80 distinct proteins.
RPL37A encodes a ribosomal protein that is part of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L37AE family. It is located in the cytoplasm and features a C4-type zinc finger-like domain.
As typical for ribosomal protein genes, multiple processed pseudogenes are dispersed throughout the genome.
