Target Information

Isoform 1:
ATP-dependent RNA helicase required during spermatogenesis to repress transposable elements and prevent their mobilization, essential for germline integrity. Acts via the piRNA metabolic process, forming complexes with piRNAs and Piwi proteins to mediate transposon repression through methylation. Involved in the primary piRNA metabolic process, binds to piRNA precursors, and promotes generation of intermediate piRNA fragments loaded onto Piwi proteins. Exhibits 5′–3′ RNA unwinding activity, likely mediating unwinding and funneling of single-stranded piRNA precursor transcripts for processing.

Isoform 2:
May act downstream of MEF2C during heart formation. Functions as a cardiac-specific suppressor of cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and cell cycle progression, potentially through regulation of CDKN1A. Further evidence required.
