Target Information
The small GTPases Rab family are key regulators of intracellular membrane trafficking, from vesicle formation to membrane fusion. RAB43 cycles between inactive GDP-bound and active GTP-bound forms, recruiting downstream effectors responsible for vesicle movement, tethering, and fusion. RAB43’s GTPase activity is activated by USP6NL and is involved in retrograde transport from the endocytic pathway to the Golgi apparatus, Shiga toxin transport, and maintaining Golgi structural integrity. It also plays a role in phagosome maturation in response to pathogens such as S. aureus and M. tuberculosis.
