Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) family. Cleavage of the encoded proprotein releases mature TRH, a tripeptide hypothalamic regulatory hormone. The human proprotein contains six TRH tripeptides. TRH regulates the release of thyroid-stimulating hormone and prolactin. Deficiency of this hormone is associated with hypothalamic hypothyroidism.
