Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure. The core structure consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits: two rings of seven alpha subunits and two rings of seven beta subunits.
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and function in ATP/ubiquitin-dependent peptide cleavage via a non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome variant is essential for processing class I MHC peptides.
This gene encodes a member of the peptidase T1A family, a 20S core alpha subunit. Two alternative transcripts encoding different isoforms have been identified.
