Target Information
Two distinct signaling pathways activate host innate immunity against viral infection. One pathway relies on members of the Toll-like receptor (TLR) family, while the other uses the RNA helicase RIG-I as a receptor for intracellular viral double-stranded RNA to trigger immune responses.
MAVS is a mitochondrial membrane protein critical for IFN-β signaling, recruiting IRF-3 to RIG-I and activating NF-κB. It interacts with innate immune components such as TRIF, TRAF2, TRAF6, and kinases IKK-α, IKK-β, and IKK-ι.
Cleavage of MAVS by Hepatitis C virus protease enables viral immune evasion. Multiple isoforms of MAVS are known.
