Enterovirus 71 (EV71)는 수족구병(HFMD)을 유발하는 바이러스로 현재 치료제가 없습니다. EV71 바이러스 입자는 약 30 nm 크기의 정이십면체 대칭을 가지며, VP1~VP4의 네 가지 단백질 소단위체로 구성됩니다. VP1~VP3은 여러 바이러스에서 공통적으로 발견되는 베타-배럴 구조를 가지며, 3CD 영역은 바이러스의 독성 특성에 기여할 수 있습니다.
