ATP13A2, also known as PARK9, is a neuronal P-type ATPase gene underlying an autosomal recessive form of early-onset parkinsonism with pyramidal degeneration and dementia.
ATP13A2 protein is located in the membrane of lysosomes and is strongly expressed in the brain, particularly in the substantia nigra, a region known to play a central role in Parkinson’s disease.
