Target Information

SAGA (Spt-Ada-Gcn5 histone acetyltransferase complex) is a histone acetylase complex that has Gcn5p as its catalytic subunit and functions overlapping with the transcription factor TFIID, which has Taf1p as its catalytic subunit.
SAGA and TFIID have distinct roles, each contributing to the transcription of housekeeping and stress-response genes. SAGA is a large protein complex composed of Ada proteins (5 types), TBP-related proteins (4 types), TAF proteins (5 types also found in TFIID), and other proteins (>6 types).
Its molecular functions include histone modification, recruitment of transcription regulators via direct DNA interactions, and control of transcription initiation by TBP. Gcn5p exhibits histone acetylase activity and, in budding yeast, consists of 439 amino acid residues.
