Target Information
Activin A receptor kinase (ACVR2A) is a type II member of the TGF-beta family of receptor Serine/Threonine kinases.
ACVR2A participates in the activin and myostatin signaling pathways.
Aliases: ACVR2, ACTRII.
These receptors are transmembrane proteins composed of:
- A ligand-binding extracellular domain with a cysteine-rich region
- A transmembrane domain
- A cytoplasmic domain with serine/threonine kinase specificity
Type I receptors are essential for signaling, while type II receptors are required for ligand binding and expression of type I receptors.
Upon ligand binding, type I and II receptors form a stable complex, leading to phosphorylation of type I receptors by type II receptors.
Type II receptors are considered constitutively active kinases.
