Target Information

Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine- and threonine-specific protein kinases activated by calcium and diacylglycerol. PKC family members phosphorylate various protein targets and are involved in diverse signaling pathways. They also serve as receptors for phorbol esters, a class of tumor promoters.
Each PKC family member has a distinct expression profile and role. The protein encoded by this gene is activated rapidly by G protein-coupled receptor agonists, localized in both cytoplasm and nucleus, and shows enhanced nuclear accumulation upon activation. It can also be activated after B-cell antigen receptor (BCR) engagement, requiring intact phospholipase C gamma and other PKC family members.
