Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein that constitutes about half of the total blood serum protein. It primarily functions as a carrier protein for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones, and helps maintain extracellular fluid volume. Albumin is a globular, unglycosylated serum protein with a molecular weight of approximately 65,000. It is synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin, which undergoes sequential cleavage in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus to yield the mature, secreted albumin.
