Target Information
Collagen type I is a major component of soft connective tissue and bone, representing about 90% of the organic matrix. It is produced from procollagen after removal of terminal propeptides, which are released into circulation.
Serum levels of these propeptides serve as indicators of collagen synthesis. Elevated levels are associated with bone metabolism disorders.
Procollagen type I C-terminal propeptide (PICP) has a molecular weight of approximately 100 kDa, and normal serum levels vary with age and sex.
