Girdin은 Galpha-interacting protein으로, Akt kinase 활성화를 촉진하고 actin cytos켈레톤을 재구성하며 세포 이동 및 암 전이 조절에 관여하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. 최근 연구에서는 Girdin이 주요 정신질환의 감수성 유전자 DISC1과 상호작용함이 밝혀졌습니다. DISC1은 dentate granule cells(DGCs)의 이동, 위치, 분화에 관여하며, Girdin 결핍 또는 Girdin-DISC1 상호작용 억제 시 CA3 영역의 축삭 발아 결함 및 DGCs의 과도한 이동이 발생합니다. 이는 Girdin이 치상회에서의 출생 후 신경발생에 중요한 역할을 함을 시사합니다.
