Target Information
Calcium Channel gamma-3 is a member of voltage-dependent calcium channels (VDCCs) that enable neurons to regulate calcium signaling in specific cellular regions. N-Type VDCCs exist before birth, implying roles in migration, while postnatal expression supports synaptic transmission in hippocampal fields.
Gamma-3 acts as a type I transmembrane AMPA receptor regulatory protein (TARP), regulating trafficking and channel gating of AMPA receptors. It belongs to an eight-member subfamily of the PMP-22/EMP/MP20 family.
Dysfunction of the Calcium Channel gamma-3 gene is associated with susceptibility to childhood absence epilepsy.
