Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the serine protease inhibitor superfamily, which plays central roles in regulating physiological processes such as coagulation, fibrinolysis, development, malignancy, and inflammation. This gene product may participate in a growth-control or growth-suppressing pathway and, when impaired, could be associated with pancreatic carcinogenesis. It belongs to the plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 family, a subset of the serpin superfamily acting as tissue-specific tPA inhibitors. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct protein isoforms have been identified for this gene.
