Target Information
Norepinephrine Transporter (NET, or noradrenaline transporter, NAT) is a monoamine transporter that moves the neurotransmitter noradrenaline from the synapse back into vesicles for storage.
It also transports dopamine to a lesser extent.
Studies have shown decreased NET levels in the locus coeruleus of patients with major depression.
Cocaine, amphetamines, and certain antidepressants (SNRIs, TCAs) act to increase noradrenaline levels.
Deficits in the NET gene have been associated with ADHD.
