P2Y12는 G-단백질 결합 수용체(GPCR) 계열에 속하며, 다양한 아데노신 및 유리딘 뉴클레오타이드에 대한 선택적 결합 특성을 가집니다. 이 수용체는 혈소판 응집에 관여하며, 혈전색전증 및 기타 응고 장애 치료의 잠재적 표적입니다. 두 가지 전사 변이가 동일한 아이소폼을 암호화하는 것으로 확인되었습니다. P2Y12의 발현은 혈소판, 척수, 여러 뇌 영역에서 보고되었으며, B세포/폐/고환, 뇌, 배아, 전립선, 눈, 신장암, 대장암 등의 라이브러리에서도 EST가 확인되었습니다.
