Product Specific Information
The OKT9 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD71, a 170–180 kDa type II transmembrane protein known as the transferrin receptor. CD71 exists as a homodimer on the cell surface and is essential for cellular growth. It is expressed by immature proliferating cells and at low levels on resting mature lymphocytes. Antigen or mitogen stimulation of T and B cells upregulates CD71 expression.
Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis
Applications Tested: Pre-diluted and tested by flow cytometric analysis of stimulated normal human peripheral blood cells.
Recommended usage: 5 µL (0.5 µg) per test (final volume 100 µL, cell number 10^5–10^8 cells/test).
Fluorophore Information:
PerCP-eFluor 710 emits at 710 nm and is excited with the blue laser (488 nm). Use a 710/50 bandpass filter (or 695/40 alternative). Ensure instrument compatibility.
Light Sensitivity:
Tandem dye sensitive to photo-induced oxidation. Protect vial and stained samples from light.
Fixation:
Samples can be stored in IC Fixation Buffer (Product #00-8222-49) or 1-step Fix/Lyse Solution (Product #00-5333-57) for up to 3 days in the dark at 4°C with minimal impact on brightness and FRET efficiency.

Target Information
Cellular uptake of iron occurs via receptor-mediated endocytosis of ligand-occupied transferrin receptor into endosomes. Acidification leads to iron release, and the receptor-apotransferrin complex is recycled to the cell surface. Transferrin receptor is essential for erythrocyte and nervous system development. Serum transferrin receptor (sTfR) is used to detect erythropoietin (EPO) misuse and as a diagnostic marker for anemia-related conditions (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, pregnancy, IBS, HIV).
