This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family, characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid motif known as the F-box. F-box proteins are subunits of the SCF ubiquitin ligase complex, which mediates phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination.
They are classified into three groups:
- Fbws containing WD-40 domains
- Fbls containing leucine-rich repeats
- Fbxs containing other interaction modules or no recognizable motifs
The encoded FBXL3 protein belongs to the Fbls class, contains several tandem leucine-rich repeats, and is localized in the nucleus.
