Target Information
In eukaryotes, phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of proteins on serine and threonine residues regulate diverse cellular functions such as division, homeostasis, and apoptosis. Protein phosphatases are key enzymes in this process. The PP holoenzyme typically forms a trimeric complex consisting of regulatory, variable, and catalytic subunits. Four major families of protein phosphatase catalytic subunits are identified: PP1, PP2A, PP2B (calcineurin), and PP2C. The PP2A family includes PP2A alpha and PP2A beta subunits. Additionally, PPX (also known as PP4) is a putative member of a novel PP family.
