Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of two subcomplexes: a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
- The 20S core consists of four rings, each with 7 alpha and 7 beta subunits.
- The 19S regulator includes a base (6 ATPase and 2 non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to 10 non-ATPase subunits).
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and function in ATP/ubiquitin-dependent peptide cleavage.
The immunoproteasome plays an essential role in processing class I MHC peptides.
The PSMD3 gene encodes one of the non-ATPase subunits of the 19S regulator lid.
